Situated on the southern tip of Mauritius, Le Morne offers quite possibly the most varied conditions of any resort in the world.
There’s beautiful flat water to scud over in the massive turquoise flat-water lagoon and then totally optional and accessible waves like ‘Comfy Pillows’ (super easy), small reef and, for the ride of your life in Manawa.

The stunning RIU Turquoise Hotel is the perfect base for the course, you’ll love it!
From the airport you’ll have an incredibly scenic transfer (1.15hrs) along the idyllic east coast, which is beaming with beautiful coral reefs, lush tropical palm trees, cane fields and bustling local villages.
As you approach the southern part of the island you will see the magnificent Le Morne rock surrounded by a stunning lagoon –You’ve truly arrived!
The RIU Turquoise is a completely new build hotel in the foothills of Le Morne with the ION windsurfing centre along the same beach.
After a fabulous day on the water, it’s a short walk back to the hotel rooms, usually via a stunning sundowner photo opportunity. Then we’ll select one of the various restaurant options to refuel, including all inclusive bar.
Quality cuisine with a mix of International food and local Indian feasts, plus the option to check out some local Windwise favourites like Wapalapam.

RIU Turquoise is our fabulous HQ as a stunning beach side Indian Ocean hotel. All inclusive massive breakfasts, re-charge lunches and dinners ocean views, post sail beers & cocktails, team talks, video playback and chilled evenings around the pool.
As well as the truly stunning windsurfing location with the amazing backdrop of Le Morne, we have loads going on.

Straight off the beach is a shallow flat-water lagoon, which is perfect for skills training, blasting, gybe practice and safe, easy flat-water wave riding practice.
Then there’s the optional waves of varying sizes, (swell dependant) for those who want to learn or enhance their Freewave / Wave skills.

No shore break! Just a beautiful lagoon for blasts, gybes and flat water wave training.
Optional waves range in size depending on the swell forecast.
We go in October, because the balance of wind and waves is about as good as you can get in Mauritius.
When the swell is working, choose between small, medium or larger waves depending on how far you venture out past the reef.
We use ION centre which has rescue cover for those who sail within the designated area.

We named this small reform break inside the lagoon as a bit of a joke, but it seems to have stuck.
It’s basically a super gentle wave for your first ride be that on a WindSUP or short board, in total safety of the lagoon.

Accessible waves to learn the basics
On the outer edge of the lagoon, Small Reef is ideal place for easy jumping and an introduction to down-the-line wave skills.
There’s an upwind channel to get out through the break without having to go through white-water.
Despite it’s size and social media status, Manawa is actually a very accessible wave.
Whether you sit off the shoulder to avoid the breaking white water or get deeper into the section, you’ll ride a wave bigger than you ever thought possible. Plus, there’s a channel to get out so no punching through breaking white-water.

One of the fastest waves in the world
Famous around the world, One Eye travels with the length and speed of a runaway train, wrapping perfectly around a distant arching and incredibly shallow reef.
This is for experts only and no rental kit. Yes there's someone bottom turning on the wave!

It is compulsory to have third-party and personal insurance for the duration of the course, covering injury to self and others.
Travel insurance is also recommended to cover any possible issues that may arise.
RYA insurance definitely does not cover you overseas for rental gear, third party accidental cover or kit damage.
Third party insurance is optional. Some holiday companies will cover you for this. TWS also have a local insurance you can take out with Safety Tool.

If you’re new to the sport or you’re looking to lock down the real basics, these courses are perfect for you.
Run by our trained Windwise coaches, they can assist you through the beginning and early stages of the sport using proven Windwise windsurfing coaching techniques to speed up your learning curve. We have 1 to 2 day windsurfing courses and our very popular overseas windsurfing holidays.
Introducing, explaining and building the essential windsurfing skills using the Windwise coaching system.
Simon Bornhoft we’ll help you develop and improve all areas of your windsurfing. Quick beach and waterstarts, relaxed stances, quality control, the earliest of planing, controlled harnessing and blasting in the straps, better upwind sailing, quicker tacking and learning how to gybe.
Want to break that plateau, extend your wind range, increase speed and consistency in those gybes and learn other achievable short board skills and moves? Then this is the course for you.
Simon Bornhoft will guide you through sailing smaller boards, tacking in stronger winds/lower volume boards, cranking up those carve gybes, control-jumping over chop, or having some fun with optional feasible freestyle like flat water wave riding, duck gybes, helitacks, up and downwind 360’s etc.
If you’re looking to get into waves or develop existing wave sailing skills you wave then our Freewave & Wave courses are the perfect environment to take you to the next level – which is far more accessible than you might think.
We run through high wind control, sailing sub 100L boards, uphauling, tacking and hovering on semi submerged boards.

We have 1-2 day windsurfing courses and our very popular overseas windsurfing holidays.
Booking conditions
Windwise will do their best to ensure your safety and enjoyment on the water. There will be times when you’re being coached individually and in a group. There will also be times when you are freesailng by yourself, just like a regular windsurfing holiday-resort.
Windsurfing is, potentially, a dangerous sport and you must agree to sail in a responsible manner and in the designated areas outlined to you in resort.
In the event that Simon Bornhoft is not able to make the clinic/holiday or course due to illness or unforeseen circumstances, your Windwise booking and holiday are still valid and the course/holiday/adventure will still go ahead and another Windwise coach will be provided for you.
Being a small operation we have to pre-pay hotels and centres to get rates, plus there are associated costs for putting these courses on overseas.
So if for any unforeseen reason you’re unable to attend the clinic or experience holiday cancellation, airline cancellation, personal health issues, injury or any other personal reason or unforeseen circumstances that prevent you from joining the course, you will still be required to pay for your holiday. You can transfer your place to another person, but if you need to cancel and cannot find a replacement we will offer compensation under the following guidelines.
