Running Beach Starts – Slalom out & back through waves – Only multi-fin boards allowed – Talented locals and international participants…..Yes it’s the World Wave Rally Championship!
Really great event format, stunning conditions with crowd pleasing close inner gybe mark. Full on racing on 4.7-5.7 Wave gear – sometimes massive air on the way out. Plus you might get someone like Jaeger Stone doing back loops in your heat!

Really well done to all the winners, great to sail and race with you all.

WINDSURFING RACING
Sprinting for you kit and launching into the water always make it a bit of an unknown. You get a lottery ball pick that gives you your upwind-downwind starting position.
Then it’s a lively energetic start – Run fast, start fast = finish fast…
Can you see the gybe mark!?
All comes down to this….

Back loops mid heat!
Great to see such a strong talented local windsurfing community, blended with international visitors competing at this famous windsurfing location – including wave guru and local fire man Jaeger Stone – who is a truly worthy of the phrase ‘awesome sailor’!
Top 9 qualified for a ‘Mega Final’ and a shot at the ‘World Wave Rally Title’.
I’ve not ‘competed’ for years but managed to make the MEGA Final. Wasn’t the best final race for me, didn’t (couldn’t:) run fast enough, got covered at the start, pulled back some places, but then lost a couple on the final beach run.
Note-to-self – Could have done better, need to practice my running beach starts.
But really enjoyed ending up in the top 10 of a unique event.
