PURE FREERACE
Okay so, there are some boards that are pretty quick and then some are exceptionally RAPID! I don’t spend much time on slalom gear, so I was super excited to be involved with the recent SV shoot and release of the new MEGA – A Freerace board – “But not as you know it!”
Usually a full on PWA level slalom board can be a really hard, scary and just bonkers to sail. So I jumped on the MEGA, with some in trepidation….
It’s was one of those rides that just leaves you beaming at its pure acceleration, top end speed and compared to other race speed boards, gorgeous control.

I was totally expecting to be on the raged edge, but it just settled in and locked down.
Others seem to be standing still – the water passes quicker, the bay is smaller. It’s electrifying, attention grabbing and yet surprisingly forgiving….I’m still smiling. If boards could talk it would say…..
“Okay, if you’re coming with me, it’s going to very very fast, but you’re gonna be okay, we’ve got this - LETS GO!”

As part of the shoot we put recreational windsurfer and Windwise photographer (boss) @katebolton onto the MEGA + M8.
Kate is barely 53kg. She had never sailed a Freerace/Slalom board before and not been in the same post code as a full cambered rig.
Suddenly Kate was pretty much the fastest across the Prasonisi bay. Blistering along, race length harness lines and her ‘screaming’ speed was almost audible to the drone above.

FOX v MEGA
Fast & Faster?
The Severne Fox is renowned for being super comfortable at speed (assisted by the forgiving Vee) especially in chop and challenging conditions. So the SV Fox works really well for those looking for a fast fun fast Freeride board that’s also forgiving in the gybes. You can use everything from Gator/NCX style Freeride sails up to cammed MOTO’s.
The MEGA is a real step up in top end speed and lightening quick acceleration. It will go as fast as you dare to go!
It’s a much more dedicated super fast Freerace/slalom board. So needs good blasting skills to sail it. But ‘unlike’ many other boards in the Freerace category there MEGA has been designed to still be pretty forgiving to sail – you don’t need to be a full on racer or PWA sailor to sail it.
So if you’re very used to sailing fast Freeride boards (are comfortable with outboard straps) and mainly sail on flatter water then a MEGA is a board choice if you really want to ramp up your level and excitement factor.
The MEGA doesn’t sail slowly….it demands your attention and just wants to lock down and go go go. It will take your sailing onto another level.
