FAST FREERIDE
The progression of the Severne Fox+FoxPro, plus the SV MEGA offers different styles and levels of Freeride + Freerace sailing to suit flat water windsurfers looking for that extra fast blasting, limitless top speeds. Whilst there’s some overlap, they have three pretty specific roles. We’ll focus on the two Foxes and then add in the MEGA to give a better overall understanding.
As ever, it was a privilege to be involved in the testing and photo shoot with these super exciting pieces of windsurfing technology.

WHY THE UPGRADE
Make A Difference
The upgrade maintains all the user-friendliness of the Fox outline shape (Original Fox is still very much available), fast+forgiving rocker-line and comfortable Vee, but the FoxPro ADDS in extra responsiveness. When sailing the FoxPro you notice the construction makes it feel crisper and you will definitely detect more subtleties in water state variations, notice gust accelerations and feel lulls are less severe. Most of all I felt it elevates that core gut feeling and excitement of ‘windsurf blasting’ – all whilst maintaining the Fox control.

TUTTLE FIN
Adding the Tuttle fin box means you can load up with a full on race fin – which many people like to do and appreciated of the benefit Tuttle fin. And yes, as you say, the raised pads are there to maintain that extra comfort for blasting fast for longer periods of time. So Fox to FoxPro upgrade is for those who want more out of the Fox style of board, but not at the cost of control and comfort. So if you’ve had a Fox for a while, but don’t want a full on slalom board, then the FoxPro is fabulous fun and you feel a few years younger on it!

On the water, I sailed Fox-FoxPro-MEGA back to back – swapping and changing many times.
It feels like a ladder of progression going from;
Fox = Easy at speed and reliable gybing – wonderfully smooth and forgiving at speed.
FoxPro = Increased responsiveness at speed + added ‘windsurfing’ excitement, acceleration and extra performance top end speed + still with reliable gybing and chop comfort.

It’s SO, SO RAPID and a very accessible controllable board to sail.

TIGHT LIGHT & NO FIGHT
If you’re used to sailing fast Freeride boards, then the Fox is one of the easiest to sail and especially user friendly in chop and tricky conditions. The FoxPro will feel like a step up from regular Freeride boards, more alive, responsive and as I mentioned earlier, I felt it elevates the indescribable feeling of ‘windsurf blasting’. Feels vibrant under foot, faster, feisty and so alive.

Fast & Faster?
The SV MEGA is yet another step up in speed, acceleration and locked in directional feel from the FOX Pro. It’s for those who really want to max out their GPS and have an uncompromising Freerace/Slalom board. When sailing the MEGA you’ll notice the weight reduction, super stiff construction and whilst it requires slightly more commitment and experience to sail than the Fox, it enables non-racers to experience that F1 feeling.
When you sail the MEGA it basically says, “We’re going full-on flat-out FAST – whether you like it or not!”. It is extremely rapid. Whereas the Fox+FoxPro are very fast, but more forgiving, scoring higher on control with less speeding fines. Especially if you’re comparing Fox-FoxPro v MEGA in very challenging water states/conditions, the MEGA requires more experience than a Fox.

MEGA – Full turbo boost, blow the doors off excitement and a straight-line bullet train, but surprisingly good around the corners and very accessible board to sail for the speed rewards. If it was a gym work out you’d get mild ‘DOMS’ the next day, but you’d want to go back for more and know you’re really into something special.
The MEGA doesn’t sail slowly….it demands your attention and just wants to lock down and go go go. It will take your sailing onto another level.

If you’ve sailed Freerace/race boards a lot then you’d step right into the MEGA world and be competing with the best. If it’s first time Freerace/Race board for you, then the MEGA wakes you up and grabs your attention like smelling salts, giving you that rapid electric car style acceleration and pins you back into your harness – feels like you’re sticking your head out of a car window! On flat water, any Freeride sailor (used to outboard straps) can sail a MEAG. In rougher conditions, you need to be more experienced to cope with the speed.
The deck pads are lower profile than the Fox, but are still very comfortable and give you that full on race feeling and extra sensitivity. Pair the MEGA with a MOTO or M8 and it’s a speeding ticket!
