Bonaire windsurfing
Our Bonaire Windwise ‘Sailors Of The Week’ for Clinic three goes to two top Windwise performers Nick & Evan!
It’s always great to see the whole group moving making moves and loads of progression through the week(Check out the rest of the crew from Wk3 here). We also like to celebrate and vote those who either made exceptional gains, broke through a major plateau, over come set backs or just deserve a big shout out for their enthusiasm and effort.
It was so great to see Nick Schoolmaster push his gybing level from ‘sometimes making them’ to much higher consistency in stronger winds to planning out – which is always a great achievement.
On another level, was Evan Joseph a self taught incredible enthusiastic beginner-improver who, by his own admission, really struggled to grasp the basics and often muscled his way through. Yet he left with so many more core skills, better harnessing, planing footstraps and also waterstart in the straps! Well done Evan – New York won’t recognize you!
Well done to the whole crew and Sailors Of The Week - Nick & Evan

WINDSURFING PROGRESSION
SAILOR OF THE WEEK
Nick Schoolmeester
Nick arrived with some decent blasting capabilities, but was looking to master his gybes and desperately wanting more speed on the exit. He was classically self taught – rushing the set up/entry, standing up too much and wasn’t ‘very good looking’. Plus he was missing some ‘Core Skills’ & ‘Touch Points’ so struggling to break through that ‘almost gybing plateau’.
Nick really indulged in our Skills Training Exercises – doing so many ‘Beach Gybes’ + ‘Executive Beach Starts’ & ‘Rig@90 Beachstarts’. Despite finding some of it hard and frustrating at the beginning, suddenly his hard worked started to pay off – he and his gybes became ‘better looking’ as the week went on 🙂
Great to see more stylish blasting and then his break through for more consistent gybes – many with planing exits (Always when the camera was put away 🙂
Well done Nick!
These were some of Nicks achievements…
Improve blasting 7 stance
Better gybe set up.
Fully sheeting in and staying lower.
Committed Warrior carving
- Earlier foot change and rig release
- Low ‘executive beach start’ planing exit
I learnt so much in one week compared to years of windsurfing.
SAILOR OF THE WEEK
Evan Joseph
Such a lovely gentle guy, but a real muscle man with the rig. Evan had been fighting his beginner kit for years! Windwise intervention time…
Evan really worked hard on improving his ‘7’ stance and overall control.
Better rig handling and harness line positioning.
Shorter boards & faster speeds.
Beach starts and even footstrap waterstarts.
