TRAVEL DETAILS
Airport: Izmir ;
Transfer: 1 hour, mostly on duel carriageway until the inlet and wind turbines of Alacati appear!
Hotels: We recommend Ileri Hotel as it's great for evening socials and local restaurants, (other options are available).

What To Take

  • Despite the hot temperature on land, the water is slightly cooler than you might think due to a local spring in the bay.
  • This means it’s advisable to wear a shortie or 3mm summer suit. It’s also wise to take a pair of surf shoes.
  • Most places take credit cards and the local currency is still Lire, and you’ll get a much better exchange rate in Turkey rather than Gatwick.
  • Mobile phones work and wireless Internet connection at Club Mistral.
  • Please also bring a waterproof watch, so you don’t miss those cracking on water sessions!

Hotel Ileri

There are other options but we tend to favour the Ileri Hotel. A simple, clean, family run hotel that is situated in Ilica (pronounced ‘ill e cha’). It’s owned by ‘Murat’ who also runs the beach café next to Club Mistral. Murat, his family and his very loyal staff are superbly welcoming to Windwise clients and Murat knows some mean bar tricks (you’ve been warned). The Ileri has a hot Turkish Bath and friendly bar and reception staff, who have worked there for many years. The advantage of being in the Ileri Hotel, is that we are right near some great restaurants and close to Alacati town, so it makes for a more social atmosphere in the evenings. It’s better value and is a superb base for heading into Alacati town at night.

COURSE STRUCTURE

The course is focused towards shorter board sailing in planing winds, covering everything from straps, harnessing, deep beach starts, waterstarts, control, ease, stance and of course, gybing. The coaching is broken down into specific SB ‘Windwise topics to focus on YOUR particular requirements. Using rewarding effective Windwise Skills Training, special demos, digital video and plenty of on water coaching, you’ll get all the encouragement and assistance you need to insure you improve.

Typical Course Level: Freeride Improver - Intermediate Course Essentials (plus)

Provided you can leave the shore and return back to where you left off, then, you'll be able to join the group. The levels and abilities will then be split into smaller groups, so that specific topics can be covered to suit your requirements. If you have any concern about your level for the week, please do call us and we’d be only too pleased to help.
What You Get:

Windwise pre-course fitness details and preparation advice.

5 days of expert coaching, video playback, on and off water coaching.

The Windwise local knowledge, care and service for a superb holiday.

LOCATION DETAILS

Flat, shallow, crystal clear blue water, Alacati is an easy, safe place to windsurf. The launch area has no shore break and you are immediately into a huge shallow windsurfing area. Allowing you the luxury of being able to stand 250 metres out from the shore. So resting and practising all those skills is very easy.

The windsurfing centre is one of the best that Club Mistrals have to offer. We’ve been coming here since 2001 so that say’s it all really. They always look after us really well and will be fabulous hosts for your holiday.

Ability: Suits all levels, but really favours beginner, early to advanced intermediates.
So our courses cater from beach start, waterstart, straps, harness and early carve gybe practitioners.

The Wind:
We don’t like wind stats, because it’s so easy for centres to be romantic with the truth. We go in June because the wind has proved to be just as good as in July/August, but the water is less crowded. The predominant Meltemi wind blows port tack (left to right across the beach). It’s lighter in the morning and builds in the afternoon. My experiences of the place have been pretty good for wind. A week at that time of year, you should expect to get a variety of conditions, perfect  for training. So expect to be on sails ranging from 4.7m-7m, on a typical Alacati day you’d be on 5.5m.
SEE YOU THERE IN JUNE!
